Looking for something different for our anniversary — my wife and I love Coldplay, but we've been to regular arena concerts a dozen times already and wanted a more intimate vibe this year. Someone at work mentioned there are candlelit string quartet tribute shows touring internationally. Has anyone actually been to one? Worth the ticket or just tourist bait?

Hi there. We went to one of these last autumn in Amsterdam, honestly one of the nicest dates we've had in years. Check the concert Candlelight: A Tribute to Coldplay & Imagine Dragons listings on MyRockShows, they keep the schedule updated across countries. The show we caught was in a small church venue, maybe 150 people, hundreds of actual candles around the room, string quartet playing Fix You and Viva la Vida and Radioactive arranged for classical instruments. The tribute is not trying to sound like the original recording, it's a reinterpretation, which is what makes it work. The setting does a lot of the emotional lifting by itself. Not tourist bait in our experience, the musicians were properly trained. Just book early, smaller venues sell out fast.
