Hi everyone,
I’m planning a trip to Auckland soon and decided I’d rather stay out in the eastern suburbs instead of booking a typical central CBD hotel. The main goals are to avoid high parking fees, skip city traffic, and enjoy a much more relaxed, coastal vibe while still being able to explore the city easily.
In my search for decent motels in East Auckland, the Bucklands Beach and Half Moon Bay peninsulas seem to come up as the top spots. Here are a few reasons why this area looks ideal for a stay:
-
Direct Ferry Commutes: Staying near Half Moon Bay Marina allows you to take a daily passenger ferry straight into downtown Auckland (or head out on a day trip to Waiheke Island) without having to drive.
-
Seaside Environment: Easy access to quiet, sheltered beaches like Bucklands Beach and Eastern Beach, ideal for morning walks or swimming.
-
Self-Contained Comfort: Many accommodations around here offer full kitchens, family-sized layouts, and free on-site parking, which makes multi-day stays much simpler.
One option I’ve been looking into is Waterfront Chalets, mainly because they offer self-contained units right along the water’s edge at Bucklands Beach.
For those who know the area well or have stayed out this way recently:
-
Is taking the ferry from Half Moon Bay fairly straightforward for daily sightseeing?
-
Are there any local restaurants, cafes, or walking trails nearby that you'd recommend checking out?
Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions!
