Is HDD-Based VPS Still a Good Choice for Storage-Heavy Projects?

Totally get it — sometimes storage > speed. I read about VPS plans with HDDs—seems ideal for backups or large data. Anyone here using HDD VPS for budget-friendly archiving or hosting?

I recently started moving my personal archive (think 4TB+ of old photos, documents, and ISO backups) to a VPS with spinning drives instead of SSD. Why? Because I don't need instant access—I just want safe storage without paying a premium. The price per terabyte is way lower, and while latency is higher, that doesn't really matter for me.

Thanks for confirming that HDD setups still make sense for static content or cold storage. I’m not trying to host a high-traffic site—just need somewhere affordable and relatively reliable to dump bulk files I might only access once a month or so.

Totally get that — sometimes massive storage matters more than speed. I came across an informative post on HostZealot’s site about their VPS plans with HDD storage. It’s perfect for backups, archiving, or hosting bulk data without breaking the bank. Sure, it’s not as fast as SSD, but if you prioritize space and affordability, it’s a smart option.

Yeah, HDD VPS still makes sense if you’re storing tons of data and don’t need lightning speed. I used it for backups and old client files — works fine and keeps costs low. But if things grow, I’d say skip the drama and buy dedicated server online. I grabbed one from HostNoc — solid setup, no surprises.
