The Suzuki SX4 earned a loyal following for its practical size, available all-wheel drive, and value-for-money positioning in the compact crossover segment. But like every vehicle, it comes with a set of recurring issues that current and prospective owners need to be aware of. Understanding these problems upfront is the smartest way to protect your investment and avoid expensive surprises. One of the most frequently reported issues on the used SX4 engine is related to the automatic transmission specifically on earlier models (2006–2009). Some owners have experienced hesitation during gear changes, harsh shifting, and in some cases, transmission fluid leaks. These symptoms are often linked to worn solenoids or transmission fluid that hasn't been changed within the recommended interval. Unlike engine oil, transmission fluid is often overlooked in routine servicing, and neglect here can cause accelerated wear. Rust and corrosion are another pain point, particularly for owners in regions where roads are salted during winter months. The SX4's undercarriage, wheel arches, and lower door sills have been identified as vulnerable areas.
