I’m an MBBS doctor currently exploring ways to upgrade my clinical skills, and I’ve been seriously considering a Fellowship in Obs & Gynae. Before making a decision, I wanted to get some honest and practical opinions from people who have real experience.

In day-to-day practice, I’ve noticed that women’s health cases are quite common—from pregnancy-related concerns to menstrual disorders, infections, and hormonal issues. While MBBS gives us a basic understanding, handling these cases confidently in real-life situations can sometimes feel challenging. That’s why I’m thinking a focused fellowship might help bridge that gap.

At the same time, I’m not planning to go for MD/MS immediately, mainly due to time commitment, competition, and current work responsibilities. A fellowship seems like a more flexible option that allows learning alongside practice. But I’m still unsure whether it’s the right move.

My Key Questions

• Does a Fellowship in Obs & Gynae really help in improving clinical confidence in real practice?
• How useful is it when working in clinics, small hospitals, or maternity centers?
• Does it actually open up better career opportunities, or is it just an additional qualification?
• Is it worth investing time and money compared to preparing for PG (MD/MS)?
• How is this fellowship generally perceived in the medical field?

What I’m Expecting from the Fellowship

I’m not expecting it to replace a full specialization, but I do want something that:

• Helps me manage common obstetric and gynecological cases independently
• Improves my patient interaction and decision-making skills
• Adds real value to my clinical practice and profile

My Concern

I’ve seen mixed opinions—some say it’s very useful for gaining practical exposure, while others feel it has limited value compared to traditional postgraduate degrees. That’s where my confusion comes in.

Final Thought

I believe fellowships can be helpful if chosen wisely, but I don’t want to invest time and money without understanding the real ground-level benefits.
