Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on a series of hand-drawn character designs lately and I’m finally ready to take them from my sketchbook to the streets. My main concern is longevity; I’m tired of seeing my hard work get scraped off within twenty-four hours by city cleanup crews. I’ve noticed that several local artists are using graffiti eggshell stickers because they are notoriously difficult to remove in one piece, essentially shattering like a shell when tampered with. Do any of you have recommendations for markers that won't fade under direct sunlight when used on these graffiti eggshell stickers?
Thanks in advance.
Hi there! Transitioning from a sketchbook to the streets is an awesome move, and you’re absolutely right—standard vinyl just doesn’t stand a chance against a determined scraper.
Using graffiti eggshell stickers is definitely the pro move for longevity. For the markers, you’ll want to steer clear of standard office supplies which fade into a ghost of a tag in a few weeks. Instead, look for oil-based paint markers like the Uni Paint PX-30 or PX-20. They are legendary in the community for being weatherproof and highly UV-resistant. Another solid option is the Sakura Solid Marker (often called "Mean Streaks") because they are essentially solidified paint and can write on almost any surface while resisting the sun. Have you decided on a specific color palette for your characters on those graffiti eggshell stickers?
