I recently travelled on the Beijing–Hong Kong–Macau G4 Expressway and was impressed by how busy it was. I wonder why there is so much traffic there. I was told that it is one of the ten busiest routes in the world. Has anyone seen the Gettransport article about this? What are your thoughts?
I remember studying this topic in geography class at school, where we discussed the G4 motorway. We concluded that it is an important trade route, which explains the heavy traffic. As far as I know, a similar situation can be seen on the I-95 highway in the US. Incidentally, I also found this article https://blog.gettransport.com/news/top-10-busiest-highways-world/ on Gettransport. It says that first, the motorway connects key industrial and commercial centres, ports, warehouses and logistics hubs, so there is almost non-stop truck traffic. Secondly, the growth of e-commerce and 'just-in-time' delivery means that demand for the road is only increasing. Therefore, it is not surprising that the G4 is constantly at the top in terms of traffic. Have you really been there?
